Where can you go fishing in the Vosges on vacation?
The Vosges is an ideal region in which to spend a rejuvenating vacation with friends or family. Whatever the season, the air is pure and invigorating, the scenery magnificent and the walks bucolic. And for those who love peace and quiet and fishing, there’s no shortage of places to do just that! And not far from Gérardmer, there’s an ideal campsite for a relaxing break.
Gérardmer and its fishing spots
Gérardmer, the emblematic town of the Hautes-Vosges, has many facets. In addition to its large, family-friendly ski area, this mountain town has managed to remain authentic. Forest walks are particularly pleasant. Lakes and waterfalls abound, whether for a stroll, a more “sporty” walk or, why not, a fishing trip with friends.
Lac de Gérardmer is the largest natural lake in the Alsace Lorraine and Vosges regions. Situated at an altitude of 660 meters, it boasts a hiking trail and swimming facilities in fine weather, with several water sports activities all summer long. Not far away is the Lac de Longemer, also of glacial origin, offering a light that changes at every hour of the day. The footpath offers an hour’s stroll. It’s said to be a fisherman’s paradise!

Is it legal to fish?
In this Valley of Lakes, fishing is accepted in lakes and streams, every day during the legal opening period. In order to fish, of course, you need a valid card. Here, it is possible to obtain a “vacation permit”.
What can we fish for?
In these lakes, you can fish for pike and tench, as well as perch, trout, roach and carp! Cards are available on a daily, weekly or annual basis. You can find all the information you need on the Gerardmer Tourist Office website. You can also hire a boat.
Other lakes and ponds in the Vosges
In the Vosges, there are many sites to discover. From Gérardmer, you can also visit Saint-Dié-des-Vosges, with its museums and cathedral. Here, you can fish in ponds and lakes according to the same principles.
As you head towards Raon-l’Étape, you’ll also find the beautiful spot of Lac de la Plaine, at Celles-sur-Plaine. This is a 2nd category lake, where you can fish for carnivorous fish such as pike, zander and perch. Here too, it’s even better by boat!
You can also fish at Lac de Bouzey, a little further west, on the outskirts of the town of Épinal. It’s the region’s largest inland lake in the 2nd piscicultural category. Here, night fishing for carp is king.
