What would Alsace be without the famous Alsace Wine Route? It’s hard to imagine. It’s an exceptional 170 km itinerary through Alsace’s thousand-year-old vineyards.

Known the world over for the simplicity of its route, the Alsace wine route by car allows you to discover the region’s wealth of tourist attractions and the Alsace vineyards.

Visit the Alsace wine route

During your camping holiday in the Vosges, we invite you to explore this mythical route. The Alsace Wine Route is one ofthe oldest in France. Created by the Office du Tourisme d’Alsace on May 30, 1953 to organize a car rally in the region, it stretches from Marlenheim to Thann.

On the Alsace Wine Route tour, you can visit over 70 wine villages and meet almost 1000 wine producers. They’ll share their passion for wine with you and let you taste it. But when we talk about the Wine Route, we don’t mean that it’s all about wine.

You can also visit Mittelbergheim, Eguisheim, Hunawihr and Riquewihr, which are listed as France’s most beautiful villages. This is your chance to discover Alsace’s natural and historical heritage.

The Alsace wine route

If you’re planning to take the Alsace Wine Route, there are many ways to visit this beautiful region. However, there are a few things you won’t want to miss on the Alsace Wine Route:

  • The Schoenheitz vineyard is entirely concentrated on the steep slopes of the magnificent Munster valley.
  • Colmar, capital of Alsace wines;
  • Ribeauvillé and its medieval town ;
  • Saint Peter and Paul Abbey;
  • Molsheim, home of Ettore Bugatti and his prestigious vehicles;
  • the charming town of Obernai, nestled at the foot of Mont Sainte-Odile;
  • the Tour des Cigognes in Saint-Hippolyte, a village also well known for its red wine.

Throughout this tour of Alsace, you’ll also be able to take part in a host of events, including the Marathon du Vignoble, Slow Up, summer wine festivals and more. On the tasting front, don’t miss the late harvest or the emblematic Munster (a soft, washed-rind, artisanal Alsatian cheese).

So, whichever way you choose (by car, on foot, by bike, or even by camper van), you should be aware that the route will certainly last more than a day. A number of accommodations are available in the various villages to make your stay as pleasant as possible.
